Supported platforms: Windows, Mac, iOS, Android An Adobe ID account is needed to use ADE. * Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) This e-reader works on almost all platforms and supports DRM-protected files. There are a large number of e-reader software available for different types of devices, some are free and some you have to pay for. And please remember that "DRM-free" ebooks are still under the copyright of either the publisher or the author, and cannot be used for any other purpose than the above without their written permission.Ī: An ebook reader is a viewer software that must be installed on your device in order for you to be able to read ebook files. However, the ebook is still under license and you may still only download book chapters and articles for your own personal use, you may still not post articles on the Internet och sell or distribute them to people outside Lund University. If a licensed ebook is "DRM-free" it also means that you as an authorized user (registered students and staff at Lund University) are allowed to download an ebook chapter without having to create a personal account. But what does this mean? DRM restricts the number of formats in which you can download an ebook, so if an ebook is "DRM-free" you can probably download it to different devices. Licenced ebooks may also be restricted by different forms of Digital Rights Management (DRM) that ties the ebook to a certain software or device.Ī: Some publishers, like for example Springer, has anounced that their ebooks are available "without restrictions" and free of DRM (Digital Rights Management). The licence often includes restrictions on the number of concurrent users, copying, printing etc, and also prevents the library from offering off-campus access to anyone except registered students and staff. For detailed information about terms of use for individual publishers please choose a publisher in the 'List of Publishers' or an ebook platform in the drop-down menu of the 'Resources' tabs.Ī: Ebooks that must be purchased or subscribed to have a licence agreement that gives the buyer permission to use the ebook in accordance with the terms set up by the publisher/vendor. This FAQ will provide you with information about general terms of use, access and restrictions for licenced ebooks. The next message says you are unable to copy books from calibre to your Kobo.Īfter you tap Connect, do you see the Kobo's accessible storage mounted on your desktop? Can you open that storage to view the files and directories in it? Can you copy files to/from your Kobo? If this works, what do you see when you right click on an ebook in calibre's library view and then hover on Send to Device? Your first message says you are unable to copy the epubs from the My Digital Editions directory into calibre. I have done this many times before but, this time, despite the fact that I have touched "connect" when I connect the kobo to my iMac, and despite the facts that the kobo e reader icon appears on my desktop and the "Device" icon appears on the Calibre toolbar, Calibre does not seem to see or accept my kobo. My problem is getting books from my Calibre library onto my kobo.
